Delay and Disappointments

Allow me to share a letter with you, from Sri Lanka, Noel Berman.
During my school days in the 1960s, we read the English classic Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne. The discussions were animated and one of my classmates said, "Why 80 days? Today we can easily do it in under 80 hours!"
The Bibil tells about an entire nation that took 40 years to finish a journey that would normally take about 2 weeks. It seems ridiculous. A month or two, or even a year, would be somewhat understandable, but 40 years is beyond our imagination-unless...God was working out His purpose and allowed such a delay.
Deuteronomy 8:2-5 tells us: "Remember how the Lord your Godled you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands. He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your fathers had known, to trach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Your clothes dod not wear out and your feet did not swell during these forty years. Know then in your heart yhat as a man disciplines His son, so the Lord your God disciplines you."
Delays, disppointments, and detours may seem to be unnecessary. But to a loving God who wants to work out His best in and through our lives, it is part and parcel of the growing process.
How exciting to realise that no hard thing is wasted, if only we are submitting to His work in our lives. this is only possible as we know Him through His Word.
So, whatever disappointed we get in life, do understand and know that God is working...in His time, not ours.
Hallelujah!
